I have always made this Ham & Corn Chowder in our slow cooker, and it’s a favorite in our house! Now that I’m trying to use my Instant Pot more, I knew I had to try this recipe in the Instant Pot. It’s so delicious! I love the Instant Pot for soups – it gives you that “cooked all day” flavor, even if you don’t start it until late in the afternoon!
Slow Cooker Ham & Corn Chowder
Here’s the slow cooker version of our Ham & Corn Chowder.
How to Make Instant Pot Ham & Corn Chowder
I used the saute feature and the pressure cooker features on the Instant Pot for this soup recipe. (How awesome is it that you can do both in one pot?!?) First I sauteed the onions in butter, then I added the rest of the ingredients and pressure cooked the soup. I was a little concerned that the potatoes wouldn’t be cooked through, but they were cooked just right!
This Ham & Corn Chowder was so delicious right out of the Instant Pot (well, not right out of the Instant Pot… let it cool just a little bit). And the leftovers were just as good the next day! Don’t you just love a soup that tastes even better later on? That’s what makes the best comfort food!
The recipe calls for canned sweet corn. You can also use frozen! I used sweet corn from our garden that we froze over the summer. Be sure to check out this post for an easy way to freeze sweet corn – it tastes summer-fresh no matter when you use it.
Enjoy!

made a ham and corn chowder tonight. Recipe calls for “press “soup.” Set for normal time on high pressure.” What is normal time for chowder?
thanks

Great question, Tracey, and I’ll update my recipe card. The “normal” time for this soup is the default time with the soup setting. On my Instant Pot, that’s 30 minutes.
