Whether you’re cooking for one or two people, or you’re cooking for a huge crowd, you’ve probably had to adjust a recipe before. If you are only cooking for yourself, you may need to cut a recipe in half so you don’t have too many leftovers. If you’re cooking for a big family, you can double a recipe to make more all at once. We don’t want to spend more time in the kitchen than we have to, so we love any kitchen hacks or tricks that can help us finish cooking and get out of the kitchen faster.

How to Cut a Recipe in Half

Most measurements are pretty easy to cut in half. Everybody knows that half of 1 cup is 1/2 cup. That one is pretty simple. But what about 1/3 cup? How do you cut that in half? You could just fill your 1/3 cup measuring cup halfway, but if you do that (and you’re like me), you probably won’t get the same amount every time.

But, if you know that 1/3 cup is 2 Tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons, exact measuring just got a lot easier!

How to Double a Recipe

Doubling a recipe is easier than halving a recipe. You can always just dip the same measuring cup in your ingredients twice. But why would you measure 1/4 cup twice, when you can just measure 1/2 cup instead? When you only use one measuring cup, you’re more likely to get an accurate measurement, and your recipes will turn out right.

Exact measurements aren’t that important in a lot of recipes. But if you’re baking, exact measurements become much more important. That’s when a cheat sheet like this can come in really handy!
