This dip kicks snack time up a notch!
This recipe started as this Quick Vanilla Fruit Dip. The original recipe was so good, but I knew it could be tweaked a bit. I found some Nestle mini morsels, and I knew exactly what I wanted to try!
The original recipe for Quick Vanilla Fruit Dip is in Mom Knows Best by Gooseberry Patch. Whether you like to follow recipes to the letter or adjust recipes to make them your own, I know you’ll find lots of tasty things in this cookbook!
How Do You Make a Cream Cheese Fruit Dip?
That Quick Vanilla Fruit Dip was delicious, but I wanted a dip with a little more body. Something that was thicker and would really stand up to my dippers. And since I wanted to add chocolate chips, I knew they would sink to the bottom of that first fruit dip recipe. Cream cheese to the rescue!
I like using Philadelphia whipped cream cheese instead of regular cream cheese because it is already soft and it’s so easy to stir. If you were to use a block of cream cheese or a container of regular cream cheese you would need to soften it before you could mix the other ingredients in, and it would harden again in the refrigerator. The whipped cream cheese stays the perfect consistency.
I also wanted something a little different than regular chocolate chips. It was so exciting to find these Nestle Mini Morsels in my local Walmart! They are a perfect size – just enough chocolate so it feels like a treat, but not such big pieces that it overpowers the fruit (or whatever you are dipping).
This dip was amazing with fresh pears. It would also be so good with strawberries! Teddy Grahams, graham crackers, or animal crackers are pretty good, too. Pick your favorite snack – anything that could use some chocolate would go well with this dip!
You won’t want to keep this dip in your refrigerator for too long. (Not that it will last.) The chocolate chips get soft and sort of melt in the dip after a day or so in the refrigerator. That’s great, if that’s what you want. But I liked the crunch of the chocolate chips, so I wasn’t crazy about the “soft” dip later on.
Enjoy!
