We have Broccoli with Cheese Sauce for every major holiday around here. I’m talking Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays… You name it. If we’re getting together with family to celebrate, there’s Broccoli with Cheese Sauce on the menu. But I got to thinking… How can I make that delicious dish even better? Add bacon, of course!
And so I did. I added bacon to this already delicious recipe and made it even better. And because I had a few tomatoes sitting around, I chopped those up and added them, too. Don’t you think the colors of this cheesy broccoli recipe are so pretty?
(And the extra vegetable makes it look more healthy!)
I used frozen broccoli for this recipe. You could use fresh broccoli if you want, but it will need to cook in the oven a little longer than these instructions call for. And hey, if you’re in a hurry, or just don’t feel like cutting up a head of broccoli, there’s nothing wrong with grabbing a bag of frozen, pre-cut broccoli!
I also cooked my bacon in the oven before I crumbled it and added it to the cheesy broccoli. If you have the oven space, absolutely do that. Or cook a big batch of bacon on the weekend so it’s pre-cooked and ready to go all week long. Or just fry a few pieces on the stove to mix with your broccoli.
Enjoy!
