Do you like to make your holiday stuffing inside the turkey? It can be done, but it’s not my favorite way to make stuffing. And since we cook it outside of the turkey, we call it dressing!
Cooking stuffing inside the turkey will keep the side dish more moist, but it also makes the turkey take longer to cook. Then you’ll end up with fully-cooked moist stuffing and a dried-out turkey breast. Or the turkey breast will be just right, but the stuffing will be under-cooked and soggy. So do yourself a favor and grab a 9×13 pan to make the dressing instead! (And use these tips to make the perfect oven-baked turkey!)
Wait – is your oven full? Make the slow cooker version instead!
I found Pepperidge Farm Herb-Seasoned Stuffing Cubes in the grocery store, and knew I was going to try these in a dressing recipe. We usually just use white bread or French bread, and cut it into pieces the day before. That way it gets just a little bit dried out before you try to make it into dressing.
But these Pepperidge Farm cubes are pre-cut, and pre-dried. And they are already seasoned a little bit. They are so easy to use! (If you like a “smoother” texture to your dressing, use Pepperidge Farm Classic Stuffing instead of the Stuffing Cubes.)
Bake the dressing in your oven covered with aluminum foil. This will help keep most of the moisture in, and keep your dressing from drying out. If it gets overcooked or dried out, it will get very crunchy, and it will be like crunching on way-too-hard croutons. No one likes that (except my son, apparently).
Do you make dressing just for the holidays, or for regular dinners, too?
Enjoy!
