What’s in My Pantry?
{As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.}
Do you know what is hiding in the back of your pantry? How long has that can of soup been in that corner? Do you throw away food because it’s past the expiration date on the package? Or have you found yourself with too much brown sugar because you don’t remember that you already have some? (I found four unopened bags of brown sugar in my pantry once…)
Keeping a pantry inventory will help you use the food you have in your pantry, keep you from buying too much of something, help you plan your meals, and help you keep track of your grocery list!
Why Do I Need a Pantry Inventory?
That’s a good question, especially if you have a small pantry. Why bother keeping track of what’s in there?
Getting dinner ready can be so much easier when you know what’s in your pantry. Is that chicken broth about to expire? Plan to use that in a meal this week! Running low on spaghetti? Add that to your grocery list! Do you still have that half-bag of chocolate chips in there? That’s important to know before you get started on those chocolate chip cookies!
As the holidays get close, a pantry inventory can be especially handy. Stock up on holiday ingredients when they are on sale, then keep track on your pantry inventory. You’ll know at a glance what you already have on hand and what you need to grab last-minute at the grocery store.
I also like to keep track of the best by and sell-by dates on my pantry ingredients. It helps with meal planning and reducing food waste – I know what things are getting closer to their dates, and I use those in upcoming meal plans for my family.
Better yet, post this pantry inventory sheet right on your pantry door, and get reminded of what’s inside without even opening it!
