Cold weather can be pretty brutal. Winter is the perfect time of year to curl up on the couch under some warm blankets with your family (and some pets, too!). It’s also the time of year for some serious warm comfort food. What’s more comforting than a hot ham and cheese sandwich? A big bowl of hot Slow Cooker Ham & Cheese Soup, of course!
It’s warm, thick, cheesy, and meaty. There’s just enough of a punch of garlic to make you take notice, but no so much that you’ll need a mint. (I use a garlic press like this one to get the garlic minced up just right.)
This soup simmers in your slow cooker for 4-6 hours on low. Or you can set it up, turn your slow cooker to high, then bundle up the family for some outside play time. When you come back inside 2-3 hours later (because, let’s face it, that’s about how long it will take to get everyone dressed and undressed for the cold!), your soup will be ready!

Slow Cooker Ham and Cheese Soup
Ingredients
- 2 10-3/4 ounce cans Cheddar cheese soup
- 2 10-3/4 ounce <g class="gr_ gr_70 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="70" data-gr-id="70">cans</g> cream of potato soup
- 5 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons black pepper
- 1 red pepper diced
- 1 onion diced
- 3-4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 pound cooked ham diced
- 3 cups Velveeta cheese shredded
- <g class="gr_ gr_75 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="75" data-gr-id="75">8 ounce</g> package shredded fiesta blend cheese
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together soups, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour into a 6-quart slow cooker.
- Add red pepper, onion, garlic, ham, and cheeses. Stir well to combine.
- Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours, until soup is hot and bubbly.
