We love Rice Krispie treats around here. And I love even more that I can make them in my slow cooker! Yes, it does take a little more time than it takes to make them on the stove. But – I don’t have to babysit the marshmallows as closely while they are melting, and I’m much less worried about burning them! So it’s a win in my book!

We love these Chocolate Football Rice Krispie Treats, so we were looking for something else to do with Rice Krispies to make the treats even more fun. My son loves sprinkles and he loves colored mini marshmallows, so we decided to mix those all together for a seriously sugary snack.

We made our first batch of these live on Facebook… It didn’t exactly go according to plan. You can watch the action here:

Then we made another batch. Check out how stretchy this marshmallow is!

I also busted out some food coloring to make these a beautiful green for spring. Use any food color you want, match the seasons, match a holiday, or just use your favorite color!

We had fun making them. Joseph had a blast with the sprinkles. And everyone had a great time eating them! The fruit-flavored mini marshmallows are a colorful surprise that everyone has loved.

Enjoy!

  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 10- ounce bag mini marshmallows 6 cups
  • 6-8 drops green liquid food coloring
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies
  • 1-2 cups colored fruit-flavored mini marshmallows
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Place butter in a 6-quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on high until butter melts (about 10 minutes).
  • Stir white mini marshmallows into melted butter. Cover and cook on high, stirring occasionally until marshmallows melt (about 10-15 minutes).
  • Add food coloring to melted marshmallows, 1-2 drops at a time, stirring between drops until the desired color is reached.
  • Turn off the heat.
  • Add Rice Krispies to the green marshmallow mixture, and gently fold into melted marshmallows with a silicone spatula.
  • Stir in fruit-flavored mini marshmallows.
  • Turn Rice Krispie mixture out into a greased 8x8 baking pan (we like cooking spray).
  • Using sprayed hands, press the Rice Krispies down into the pan.
  • Top with desired sprinkles, gently pressing sprinkles into the surface of the treats so they stick.
  • Let cool. Slice into squares and serve immediately.
  • Store leftovers in an air-tight container.
