I know… it sounds like a strange combination, doesn’t it? Trust me on this one… it is delicious!
This recipe is slightly adapted from one in “Autumn with Family & Friends” by Gooseberry Patch. If you love the flavors and smells of fall, you’ll love this cookbook!
The first time I made this recipe was for a girls’ night in. The girls said, “anything is great with cream cheese and butter!” They are not wrong! Pumpkin, cream cheese, butter, Parmesan cheese, pasta, maple syrup… what’s not to love?
The original recipe called for maple-flavored sausage. But I got a deal on ground pork at the grocery store. So instead of using maple-flavored sausage, I just cooked the ground pork in some real maple syrup! The liquid is cooked off, but the maple flavor stays behind and makes the pork so very delicious.
You’ll need to do a good amount of stirring while you make the sauce. It takes a little while for the cream cheese to melt, but it is worth the wait. The sauce is so creamy and cheesy… add in a little pepper and nutmeg, then the maple-flavored pork, and it’s a fall recipe made in heaven!
Enjoy!
