Grilling is a fast and easy way to get dinner on the table on busy weeknights. But boneless, skinless chicken breasts can dry out easily on the grill, and they just get kind of boring after a little while. These Honey-BBQ Grilled Chicken Thighs are the perfect recipe! I love to use boneless, skinless chicken thighs in the slow cooker and on the grill. They have a little more flavor and a little more fat, so they are not as likely to dry out.

We love all things honey-bbq in this house (and you guys love honey-bbq recipes on this website, too!) This Honey-BBQ sauce is so easy to make, and it’s delicious on this chicken! The sweet and tangy flavor just helps you feel like summer time, any time you want to make this recipe.

I like Heinz Classic Sweet & Thick barbecue sauce for this recipe. You can use whatever barbecue sauce you like. Different BBQ sauces can have very different flavors, so switch it up to see what works best for you!

This recipe calls for 4-4.5 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken thighs. That’s a lot of chicken, so it’s perfect for feeding a crowd or for having lots of leftovers. Or make a big batch and freeze some for a fast and easy dinner on another night! If you want a way to reinvent this recipe, you’ll love this Honey-BBQ Chicken Salad!

What’s your favorite way to enjoy chicken? Have you tried chicken thighs before?

Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 4-4.5 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce I like Heinz Classic Sweet & Thick
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • Optional: Additional barbecue sauce and honey for garnishing.

Instructions

  • Preheat grill to high.
  • Mix barbecue sauce and honey together in a small bowl. (A glass measuring cup like this Pyrex cupworks great.)
  • The chicken thighs will be rolled up in the package. Remove thighs from the package and unroll. Brush one side with the honey-barbecue sauce mixture. A silicone brush like this one works well.
  • Place chicken on hot grill, sauce side down. Brush the other side with the honey-BBQ sauce.
  • Grill, covered, for 3-5 minutes. Turn each piece of chicken over and grill, covered, for another 3-5 minutes.
  • Chicken is done when the minimum internal temperature is 160 degrees F, measured with a meat thermometer.
  • Remove chicken from grill and let rest for 3-5 minutes.
  • If desired, top with additional barbecue sauce or honey before serving.
