Book Review: Pigs and Pork

By Marybeth Feutz 3 Comments

Okay, this is the last pig book. For now. This is Pigs & Pork in the Story of Agriculture by Susan Anderson and JoAnne Buggey.

pigs and pork cover

Susan and JoAnne have a series of agriculture books – this one about pigs, a book about corn, and one about soybeans. These books are for older kids, elementary school age. Each book has a companion “A to Z” book for younger kids. The entire series is in the recommended book list of the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.

All their books feature this tractor, Agri-Culture, who helps introduce topics. The “Story of Agriculture” books are set up in 5 chapters that correspond to 5 parts of agriculture.

This book has lots of great photos of farmers, pigs, farms, and pork.

Each page has a “did you know?” question with a great fact about pigs or pork. (Hey, we’ve talked about cuts of pork before!)

Each page also has an “It’s a fact!” section with another interesting fact about pigs or pork.

its a fact

I like that this book talks about pigs and pork all the way from the farm to the grocery store. It’s full of great information, photographs, and “fun facts” about pigs and pork. I definitely recommend Pigs & Pork in the Story of Agriculture!

Claudia – You can get these books online at the American Farm Bureau Foundation store. It’s a little challenging to navigate sometimes, but this should get you started. I hope you enjoy them!
