I was so excited when my local grocery store started carrying dulce de leche! If you have never had it before, you are in for a treat. You will probably find it either in the baking section or in the ethnic section of your grocery store. (Or just buy it online here.)
Dulce de leche is similar to caramel. It is thick, rich, and so very decadent… and when you add chocolate chips (like in this recipe), you’ll just want to eat it with a spoon. And you should!
You can also dip apples in it, or graham crackers, or Nilla Wafers, or whatever else you want to use as a vehicle to get this yummy Dulce de Leche Chocolate Dip into your mouth. In case you were wondering, it is heaven on strawberries!
This dip is amazing to make. It can heat up in your 2-quart slow cooker without a problem, but it does take a little bit of babysitting. You do need to stir it occasionally, to get all the melted ingredients to mix together, and to keep it from burning on the side of the slow cooker. Feel free to taste-test every time you stir… Just be careful to not burn your tongue when you do – ouch!
Enjoy!
