New Fall Resolutions

By Marybeth Feutz 10 Comments

I can make these, right?  They’re my New Year’s Resolutions, except it’s the end of September.  Not exactly the start of a new year, but it is the start of a new season, so here I go!

This was sparked by a few realizations I had Wednesday morning.

Tuesday, I dashed around the house doing a “crisis clean.”  We had someone coming over to take some video on our farm for the Indiana Farm Bureau, and I wanted to be able to invite them inside without being embarrassed.  (Things have gotten a little out of hand, what with 12 hours of thesis writing a day.)  Then that night, I actually washed all the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen after dinner.  It was so nice waking up to a clean kitchen this morning!

Resolution #1, I am back on the FlyLady bandwagon.

Wednesday morning, I got on the bathroom scale.  Let’s just say, it wasn’t pretty.  You know where I’m going with this one.

Resolution #2, I am back on the Weight Watchers bandwagon.

Wednesday afternoon I noticed my Norfolk Island Pine, which sits on top of my filing cabinet in my office, is looking very sad, and not just a little brown.  I swear, I can kill a cactus.

Resolution #3, water indoor plants twice a week.

(Side question, does anyone know if I can eventually move the Norfolk Pine outside in southern Indiana?  It sounds like the winters might get too cold for it here.)

Anyone else up for making some New Fall Resolutions along with me?

Scooch over! I need to jump on both wagons with you! My weight has started creeping back up since harvest started, and wouldn’t you know my hubby said the other day, “Hey I have lost FIVE pounds since harvest!!” Yeah, and I know just where they went!

One problem…the plants may not need twice a week. The #1 killer is actually overwatering. You should revise to say “water as needed.”

Good Morning I agree with the water when needed I have a pine that I have had since 1989 and it still sits in the same corner south east exposure and water maybe once every 2 weeks or when dry.
Resolution #1 walk and walk some more best way I know to lose weight now that it is cool out

About putting the pine outside only in the warm weather. I don’t because you have to debug the plant when they come back in for winter.

now, now, now, let’s not try to take on too much at once! lol. I need to join you on the flylady wagon. But it seems like a lot of work. 🙂

Iam on the weight watchers bandwagon as well…although I fell off for a couple weeks…but dusted myself off and got back on! Good Luck!

Lana, Katie, and Four – there’s room on all the wagons for everyone!

Carla and Ann, thanks for the advice on the plant. Wish me luck with it!

And Katie, there’s so much more I want to take on. For instance, I didn’t resolve to blog four times a week, or get up early to exercise 5 days a week, or… or… or… 😉 Baby steps!!

I think this is a great idea, but I am going to be a procrastinator since my October travel schedule looks absolutely crazy for work. I’m hoping I can use the next 3 months to get mentally ready for some New Year’s resolutions that will stick.

Great idea, Marybeth! I think I may be joining the diet bandwagon with you… tho probably not weight watchers. I think I just need to stop eating all of the sugar…. and start working out…

Heather – good luck on getting mentally ready! For me, I just need to jump in and give it my best.

Andrea – Kudos if you can do it on your own. I need the accountability! (And sometimes that doesn’t even work.)
