butter
softened

brown sugar
packed

teaspoon
baking soda

teaspoon
vanilla extract

cup
hot water

quick-cooking oats
uncooked

cups
all-purpose flour
1
teaspoon
salt
1/2
cup
semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar.
In a separate bowl, combine baking soda, vanilla, and hot water. Add to butter mixture.
Stir in oats, flour, and salt. Fold in chocolate chips.
Drop by tablespoonfuls onto lightly greased baking sheets.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, until edges are just beginning to turn golden. Cool on wire racks.
