For the filling:
- 4-5 medium apples (about 4 cups chopped)
- 1 14-ounce can whole berry cranberry jelly
- 1 cup granualted sugar
For the topping:
- 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup butter melted
Core, peel, and chop the apples. You need about 4 cups of chopped apples In a large saucepan, combine the apples and cranberry sauce. Add 1 cup sugar to the cranberries and apples.
Heat over medium heat until warmed through.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. In a small bowl, beat the egg and vanilla. Mix in the melted butter. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and stir until combined.
Transfer the heated filling to a 9x9 baking pan. Spoon the dough for the topping evenly over the filling.
Bake at 375 degrees for 50-60 minutes, until the topping is golden brown.
Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
